Mayor meets health minister By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Mayor Rick Bonnette says his meeting with Health Minister Deb Matthews last week went longer than expected-- 25 minutes-- but now the community must "wait and see" whether the Province will accept his special argument that the population growth in and around this community is putting undue pressure on the small hospital. Bonnette met with the minister in Toronto, accompanied by Councillor Jon Hurst, a director on the Halton Healthcare Services board, and Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Perlin. While acknowledging the long list of Ontario hospitals asking for provincial money, Bonnette is attempting to get the Province to contribute a portion of the required funding to the Georgetown Hospital's proposed expansion and renovation project. The Town, hospital and community fundraising will be contributing the rest. While the mayor described the minister as `bright, warm and cordial', she was also non-commital. "But we did walk away with a new strategy," he said. "I am finetuning another proposal (to get some provincial cash) and will be faxing it off later today (Monday)."
