14 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 10, 2011 YOU AND YOUR PET Slim is trim and ready to win your heart Slim does soil his kennel, and unless it is Shelter nerves, will need to have a family willing to reintroduce him to house proofing. Walking on a leash is joyous for Slim but his happiness at being in the wild blue yonder makes him a candidate for extra leash work. That nose scenting the ground can make those short legs scurry along but this happy-go-lucky boy just needs love and direction and his smart little mind will soon comply. Slim will need a secure fenced yard because again that nose could lead him off on paths unknown, and if left to his own devices in an outside run, he could possibly dig SLIM Slim is a year old Basset/Foxhound cross, a 33-lb tricolour male; this boy was bred to hunt, but instead spends a large part of his days in his pod. Slim is ever on the watch for a human's approach, alert and as cute as a button, wiggling with joy-- Will I be let out? Will they play with me? Will we go for a walk? Whatever you want, I'm up for it. Slim arrived at the Shelter as a stray. He definitely has the high energy of his mixed breed, has his basic commands, loves EVERYBODY-- adults, children, dogs, cats, no "slim" pickin's here-- just an all encompassing heart. his way to freedom. Stories by JUDITH-ANNE KOLU The caregivers feel that when an adopUpper Credit Humane Society volunteer tive family gives him Photos by Claudia Duijsens lots of interaction www.claudiaduijsens.com and company, he will be much more interested in playing and being with you than wandering off. Boredom is his enemy and like all young creatures will find something to do to alleviate it! If you feel up to the challenge, give us a call at 519833-2287 and prepare to meet a very endearing boy! Asia would flourish in a home in which she would be an "only" -- not recommended for a family with young children, because Asia will express herself if rough handling or teasing came her way. We think Asia could manage a dog if they could manage Asia. Although her lively spirit is still intact, Asia has waited over a year for a home and her patience has not yet been rewarded. If you feel she might be the cat for you, please call 519-833-2287 or e-mail: adoptions@uppercredit.com. Let's put Asia on the map Perhaps not on the map precisely, but certainly into a new residence living with you. Asia is a gorgeous feline with a huge personality. She was approximately a one-year-old when she arrived as a stray at the Shelter on January 18, 2010. Asia has an expansive personality, sometimes full of energy, always an independent spirit. She is not particularly fond of the company of the other residents and can show her pernickity side to other cats. However, on a dime she can become a "loving princess" when it is human/feline interaction time. Who else makes little "chirping" sounds and attempts to hold a conversation with you. Asia has a very interesting, unique personality and for the right home she is an engaging lady. Asia is very funny to watch, she loves to play, jump and bounce around, even leaping out of her cage and scanning the floor for toys as she zips about. Often hilarious, upside down on the scratching posts, throwing toys under things. DUFF CLAUDIO Valentine Week at the Shelter certainly was a "loving"event. Nineteen of our feline residents found homes! The adoption of Claudio and Missy was cause for special celebration as both BEIBER had been with us since September 2009 and it was poignant and exciting to see them finally get homes after such a lengthy stay with us. Longtime resident delightful Duff (arrived Oct. 2009) and Pierre went home together, as did LA and York. Blackberry, Chloe, Spot, Lennox, Twiggy, Goldie, Cuddles, June, Tye, Dimples, SilFIRECRACKER ver, Beiber and Firecracker rounded out the ros- We're adopted! MISSY PIERRE LA SPOT BLACKBERRY ter.
