At Tuesday's council meeting, Fogal refused to endorse the confidential minutes of an in camera February 22 meeting, that directed staff to bring back disposition strategies for four town-owned sites in order to raise funds for the Town's capital projects including the recently approved three-arena program. One of those sites was Memorial Arena, as was announced by Mayor Rick Bonnette the following week at the special council meeting dealing with the arena program. The other three sites were not identified. During that meeting the THURSDAY, March 10, 2011 Memorial Arena sale? Not so fast, says Fogal mayor told the audience, "We will be selling some town assets to also offset the cost (of the arenas). And it's no secret we will be selling Memorial Arena. ...to put towards another ice pad to keep the taxes down." But Fogal, who was not at the Feb. 22 meeting, questioned the wisdom of selling the Memorial Arena site, noting it is within the GO Station development area slated for high intensification, and is already currently under-serviced by parkland. "You have to ask where is the parkland? (If Memorial is developed) there won't be any left in that area. ... Are we going to start buying houses on King St. and knock them down for a park?," she asked the rest of her colleagues around the table.
