8 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 24, 2011 Children's Chorus to get their soul groove on By LOIS FRASER Georgetown Children's Chorus The Georgetown Children's Chorus performs all kids of music, from five-part harmonies in Latin to good old Rock 'n Roll. It's no secret that the kids love something rhythmic. Music for the Soul, to be performed this Saturday, March 26 at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, will fit the bill. Performances will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The kids are pumped! Motown songs are featured prominently, with tunes like Stand By Me, You Can't Hurry Love, Stop in the Name of Love and Ain't No Mountain High Enough. The Children's Chorus, directed for the 19th year by Dale Wood, has five age groups, from age 5 to 18. The 5-year-olds are performing spirituals like Dry Bones and Chatter with the Angels. The older kids are singing The Glory Train, Sing with the Spirit, I've Got Shoes and Chariots Comin'. Throw in Abba's Take a Chance on Me (just cause the kids begged for this one)and Don't Stop Believin', the song which Glee made famous and you've got a toe-tapping extravaganza. Of course, there are some slower tempo hits from Motown like Reach Out and Touch and Bacharach's That's What Friends are For. And what concert featuring soul music would be complete without a couple of Michael Jackson hits? ABC brings back memories of his early days and Heal the World is perfect both for Earth Hour Day and for focusing on the upheaval our world faces at this time. Tickets for Music for the Soul ($15 adults, $7 under 18) are available through choir members, at the door, or by calling 905-877-6841. Get your soul groove on and join us! Source of the Song 18 will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2-5 p.m. in the Glen Williams Town Hall, featuring three special guest songwriters: veteran slide guitarist Sam Turton, folk veteran Jude Vadala, and hot newcomer Jadea Kelly. "This Source of the Song has a roots and blues edge that should be just perfect to lift people out of the winter doldrums," says the show's host and co-producer Bruce Madole. "These are people who know how to lift people up with their music." Guelph-based songwriter, guitarist and producer Sam Turton has been playing slide guitar for over 35 years, and he is the co-leader of Guelph's "All Together Now" music series. Jude Vadala, is a veteran folk artist, multi-instrumentalist, session vocalist, and songwriter who brings over 30 years of passionate music making, and is a co- founder of Guelph's highly-successful Hillside Music Festival. Jadea (pronounced "Jade-a") Kelly started out touring with Canadian Juno-nominated band Protest The Hero, but soon evolved her own edgy personal writing style in the direction of country-folk, where she has already begun garnering awards and attention. Still in the process of finishing her second CD, with famed producer David Baxter, Jadea's performing style has evoked comparisons with Neko Case or Kathleen Edwards. "I'm really looking forward to this," says Madole, himself a roots and blues songwriter, who has also been writing new songs over the winter. "It's going to be great fun for everybody."
