SENIORS LIFESTYLES Georgetown Seniors Centre By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre Only a week left to get your ticket for the Alia Tan/Jay Spring Fashion Show. You won't want to miss it. I have had a sneak preview at some of the wonderful fashions available. Remember that it is Monday, April 11 at 1 p.m. Limited number of seats. This event is open to all ladies. Tickets of $5 are available at the Reception Desk. No tickets available at the door. Plans are moving right along for the fabulous All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 16. Bring your family, your friends, and your entire neighbourhood to a feast of pancakes, fresh maple syrup, and sausages for just $5. Best price in town! If you are looking for a morning of fun and laughter join the Mingle and Chat group for their auction on Wednesday, April 20 beginning at 10 a.m. Bids may not exceed $5 and bid on an item you cannot see until you buy it. Even more fun is to bring along a wrapped item for the auction. All proceeds go to the Centre. Let your sweet tooth take over your body as you look over the delectable chocolate Easter candies that will be available for purchase at the Centre on Thursday, April 21 in our foyer. No time for diets! Go ahead! Buy some! I won't tell anybody! If you have been in the Centre lately you will notice a beautiful butterfly on the wall. As you get closer you will see that it contains some names. This is our new Donor Wall and will contain names of persons who make a $300 gift or bequeath to our Centre. Below it are pamphlets to explain how and why it came into being. Please pick one up or discuss it with Bernie Bradner and his committee. Remember your centre operates with the help of many volunteers. There are never enough of these so if you feel at all inclined to help out in some way please offer your time. Satisfaction is your reward. What better pay can you get? 29 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, March 31, 2011 Bridging the gap Neville Palmer (right) of Georgetown Seniors Centre, partnered with Tyler DeZeeuw, a Grade 5 Gardiner Public School student, after Tyler presented his e-profile on Neville. It was part of the Seniors and Social Media program, in which students make a video presentation of a senior they have interviewed. The presentations were shown at Georgetown Seniors Centre recently. Photo by Ted Brown Acton Seniors Centre By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre It was a very busy day recently when 10 new leaves were added to our Looking to the Future wall. Irene Richardson and Barbara Bedard both placed leaves in memory of Nettie Field. John Buckman placed two in memory of his wife Frieda. Marjorie Bartel's granddaughter Ashleigh Harding climbed the ladder to place two in memory of her grandmother on behalf of the Leather Town Lassies (Red Hats) while Marjorie's daughter Debbie Harding supported the ladder while holding her mother's red hat. Lois Walker placed three leaves on branches in memory of her husband Tom on behalf of the Acton Seniors Centre and one shared by Tom and Jim Stark from the Leather Town Lassies (Red Hats). This represents $500 towards our commitment to raise $400,000 towards our future expansion. There is a signup sheet for anyone interested in joining either a band and choir or a drama group. It would be great now that we have some new members (with perhaps hidden talents), if it could be restarted. Tickets are on sale for the joint Acton and Georgetown dance at the Acton Legion on Friday, April 8. You don't need a partner to enjoy the dance. Pease note starting on April 1st the hikers will meet at the Centre at 10 a.m. Bev assures me it's not an April Fool's joke as they always move to mornings anticipating warmer weather ahead. The Tuesday, April 5 matinee will be Life As We Know It-- a touching romantic comedy. Georgetown Alexander Trenton, DD, F.C.A.D. (A) Creating Confident Smiles Since 1982!
