United Way goal surpassed By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer The United Way of Halton Hills set its largest campaign goal ever for the 2010 campaign and thanks to the community, that target was not only met, it was surpassed. The goal was $325,000-- but $329,000 was actually raised. "We wouldn't have had such a successful year without the help of such a great and supportive community," said Brian Clark, President of the Board of Directors for United Way of Halton Hills. He said thanks go to local businesses, passionate donors and dedicated volunteers for making the campaign so successful. Without them, he said, "goals such as these are only dreams waiting to come true." United Way executive director Janet Foster said donations were up in several areas. She said a couple of major workplace campaigns in town increased by about 15 per cent over the previous year, local business one-time corporate donations were also up by about 25 per cent. The direct mail campaign also increased over the previous year by 10 per cent and money raised at the President's Ball and Annual Holiday House Tour were both up, by 20 and 30 per cent respectively. Foster also said more and more residents are getting the message about the importance of ensuring their out of town workplace United Way donation is designated back to their local United Way. "We continue to see increases in that," said Foster. "We are very grateful to the community for the support we received this year in achieving our highest goal ever," said Clark. "This gives us tremendous momentum as we embark on our 25th year in Halton Hills. We would like to thank everyone in the community for allowing us to continue supporting 19 agencies, which are providing valuable programs and services to the people of Halton Hills." Foster said they are currently working on the funding designations to the agencies, but thanks to the generosity of Halton Hills residents United Way will be able to increase their community allocations this year. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Way of Halton Hills. "To commemorate the anniversary the United Way of Halton Hills will be allocating some special funding to the community this year, on top of our regular allocation," said Foster. Over the past 25 years the United Way has given more than $4 million in funding to local agencies.
