Free hospital seminar with updates on cervical cancer and vaccinations Do I Still Need a Pap? is the title of a free education seminar presented by Dr. Santina Andrighetti as part of Halton Healthcare Services's "Living Healthy" series. Members of the public are invited to attend this update on cervical cancer and vaccinations. This event has been organized by Halton Healthcare Services in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and Wellspring. The event was made possible through an educational grant from Merck. Dr. Santina Andrighetti, M.D., and Gynaecologist with Halton Healthcare Services, will speak about prevention, early detection, and treatment options for women's cervical health issues including cervical cancer. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. According to the Canadian Cancer Ontario, nearly 550 Ontario women are diagnosed with cervical cancer per year in Ontario. This cancer can be prevented and, in most cases, can be cured if treated early. Pap tests are used to detect cervical cancer before it has fully developed, which is when treatment can be effective. The HPV vaccination program is also working towards reducing cervical cancer by reduc- 43 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, April 14, 2011 ing the risk.
