BIA Georgetown Toastmasters opens new chapter in Acton The Acton Orators are the "new kids on the block" in the Toastmasters International organization. Started approximately two months ago by Judi Hopper, five-year fond exmember of the Halton Hills Toastmasters, the momentum of the Acton Orators has earned praise at the Toastmaster's District level. District 86 Lieutenant Governor, John MacDonald, says, "For a start-up club their response has been amazing; their club is a success story in the district!" About 15 Acton-area men and women are now working through the Toastmasters education program to increase their confidence and poise while they learn and practise the skills of communication and leadership-- and they're having fun doing it. Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who founded the Toastmasters organization in 1924 said, "We learn best in moments of enjoyment," and that's why each weekly meeting includes an entertaining, interactive session called "table topics." With no more that one minute to prepare, table topics is designed to develop impromptu, seize the moment and think on your feet speaking skills, an ability that complements the more structured speaking ob- Acton Orators Secretary Kristy-Lynn Brosowski, Secretary (left) presents Janet Veldhuis, VP Education, with the ribbon for Best Table Topics. At a recent meeting, Kristy-Lynn Brosowski presented Janet Veldhuis with the "Best Table Topics" ribbon for her minispeech about her enthusiasm for the hot, sociable month of August. If you want to overcome your fears, enjoy more rewarding relationships or further your career through better communications and leadership skills, drop in to a weekly meeting of the Acton Orators on Wednesdays, 7 p.m. at the Knox Church, 44 Main St. N., Acton. Info: Judi Hopper, VP Public Relations, 905-6999777 or ActonTM@gmail.com The committee would also like to acknowledge the following for their support: Air Cadets, Army Cadets, the 1,450 students and their teachers representing 17 schools who participated during the day, the Ladies Auxiliary RCL Branch 120 for the Veterans' Luncheon, the Halton Regional Police, The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment), all participants in the evening Silent Walk, RCL Branch 120 for the reception and especially "All Our Veterans" who richly deserve these Candlelight Tributes.
