Our latest initiative involves a community effort to prepare a Community Sustainability Strategy, a blueprint for a path towards a more sustainable future-- a future with a great quality of life for all. This is an exciting path for Halton Hills, requiring us to "Imagine Halton Hills" over the next 25-50 years. There is a questionnaire to fill out and it only takes five minutes. To complete the survey online please visit the Town's website at www.haltonhills. ca. We would like your input. ··· On May 24, council will be making a decision on whether to fund part of the Georgetown Hospital expansion project. I have written the Minister of Health and Long-term Care and Councillor Jon Hurst and I have also met with the minister and we are still awaiting a formal response. ··· Congratulations to Wellington-Halton Hills MP Mike Chong on his re-election. I wonder if the prime minister will find a spot for him in his cabinet this time around? ··· The early results are in and the message is clear-- the Acton Branch library is a stunning success. History has shown that when new libraries are provided, the use of programs and services increases significantly. This has certainly been the case with our new Acton Branch which opened February 26. In the month of March alone, items checked out from the Acton Branch in- Town would like residents' input Rick Bonnette creased by 74% over the same period last year. Early circulation reports for the month of April show an increase of 82%. You build it and they will come. We will see the same thing in Georgetown when the Library and Cultural Centre renovations are complete. ··· I would like to congratulate longtime volunteer Dorothy Rognvaldson who is being recognized Saturday as this year's Acton Citizen of the Year. Dorothy is 93 and still giving to her community. ··· Congratulations to the Georgetown Little Theatre on their 50th anniversary. "That makes no sense, to put a hockey player on a can of soup. It's probably the only thing you can eat without teeth" Great Britain: Workmen at Blackpool Pleasure Beach were surprised when they drained a lake underneath the amusement park's Big Dipper roller coaster. They found in it, a pile of false teeth that had fallen into the mouths of screaming passengers. One newspaper promptly renamed the ride the "Molar Coaster." Many people avoid drawing attention to their hearing loss by having fewer social contracts when it becomes difficult understanding what is being said. The result is an altered and lonely existence that family and friends may mistake for dementia. Learning new strategies to cope with hearing loss could go a long way to restoring confidence and improving communication. The Hearing Clinic recommends the following: Inform people of the hearing loss so they may modify their speech; eliminate background noise; watch the speaker carefully and sharpen natural lip-reading abilities; ask the speaker to repeat what was said if necessary, and above all else; have your hearing thoroughly tested and properly fit with one of today's modern hearing instruments. Contact The Hearing Clinic if you or someone you know needs assistance. TOOTH TIDBITS I needed to take an impressionn of my new patient's mouth in order to have his dentures made. The material I had prepared was ready, and I placed the impression tray in his mouth. When I removed the tray, I noticed a large air bubble in a critical area. "I'm sorry", I told the patient. "I haven't made a very good first impression." "What do you mean?" he asked in surprise. "I think you are very nice." w w w. t h e I F P. c a Tooth Chatter
