Youth honoured for service to the community In honour of International Youth Week, May 1-7, the Mayor's Youth Action Committee (MYAC) recognized the achievements of youth in Halton Hills at the eighth annual Youth Recognition Awards on May 3. The Halton Hills Mayor's Youth Action Committee (MYAC) is a voluntary group of young individuals between the age of 13 and 21 whose goal is to support and recognize their fellow youth and ensure that young voices are heard through the Town of Halton Hills. The main objective of this group is to act as an advocate for youth issues and to promote positive, meaningful recreational and social opportunities in partnership with the community. The MYAC Youth Recognition Award winners were recognized for promoting a positive image of young people and generating awareness of the value and contributions youth can make. The youth recognized are being acknowledged for different reasons, some for volunteer accomplishments and their commitment to our community, and others for their artistic abilities. "When we are seeking candidates for these awards we look for individuals that are involved in the community at a capacity that benefits both their peers and others," said Jennifer Ancona, Town of Halton Hills Recreation Coordinator for Children and Youth. Read about these inspirational youths on pages 4 and 5. In conjunction with this event, MYAC hosted the Youth Art Competition for youth between the ages of 13-18. The winning artists and their work is shown on pages 5-6.
