The Acton technological design team of Bailey Rolfe, Kevin Lawrence, Angelo Meogrossi Trent Regular, Jesses Voelkner, Loren German, Scott Olsen and Dylan Jubinville were chosen as one of the senior division winners in the Our Canada Awards. Each year the Halton Region Museum and Halton Region, sponsor the Our Canada Awards to celebrate Kindergarten to Grade 12 students' impressions of Canada's history, geography and culture. Judges graded the projects by grade division, using the following criteria: knowledge and understanding of a vision of Canada, critical and creative thinking skills, communicates a clear message through various forms and relevance to Canada through transfer of knowledge and skills. The Acton team studied the issues associated with the lack of affordable housing in Halton and how the universal design process can easily be incorporated to allow new houses to be sustainable, accessible and usable by all. An awards ceremony and reception was held on May 17 at the Halton Region Museum. As well, this week Acton tech design student Jon Van Oosten is representing Halton Region in the 12-hour, architectural design and drafting challenge at the National Skills Competition in Quebec City.
