More than a thousand students from every school in Halton Hills gathered at Remembrance Park in Georgetown and at the Glen Williams Cenotaph on a bright, sunny spring day to participate in the ninth annual Georgetown Candlelight Tributes. Taking place on May 5 this year, the event celebrates the anniversary of V-E Day, which marked the end of World War II in Europe. The students placed candles on the Georgetown and Glen Williams cenotaphs as a symbolic passing of the torch of remembrance and greeted the veterans in attendance. "The Candlelight Tributes are a chance to shake hands and say thank you to the veterans," says Candlelight Tributes chairman Barry Timleck.
