An honours student throughout high school, Angelo has been on the track and field team, swim team and has been a member of Link Crew and the Prom Committee. Angelo's school and community involvement make him a role model for his peers and the staff and students in Acton High School are proud he is being recognized for his achievements. Congratulations, Angelo! Students honoured for their contributions Students representing each of the Halton District School Board's elementary and secondary schools were recently honoured at the 27th annual Celebration of Student Excellence. A student from each public school was selected to be that school's representative of exceptional qualities in at least two of the following areas: academic, vocational and athletic fields, self-improvement, community work, citizenship and student leadership, or specific criteria that reflects the school's unique priorities. Halton Catholic District School Board also honoured its outstanding students at its 23rd annual Sharing the Spirit Award of Excellence celebration. Students selected demonstrated Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in the school and community activities and commitment to a difficult task or situation. As well, HCDSB Special Education Advisory Committee presented its regionwide Spirit of Inclusion Awards. In this special section, we showcase the Halton Hills students selected to represent our local HDSB and HCDSB schools. Melissa Barker Christ the King Catholic High School Melissa has participated in the Ride for Heart in honour of her brother Matthew, a former student at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School. With the generous contributions from faculty and students at Christ the King as well as other contributors, her team (Motoring for Matt) managed to raise over $56,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Brad Lawrence Georgetown High School Brad, a Grade 12 student, embodies the outstanding qualities celebrated by the Student Excellence award. Brad's teachers throughout the years have consistently commented on Brad's excellent attitude, commitment to excellence, and hard work. Brad has always been an excellent role model for other students in his classes, willingly and enthusiastically demonstrating his leadership qualities. He has been a member of the Concert Music Band, an accomplished clarinet player, and has taken six courses in music and drama. Brad has exceeded his community hours' requirement by earning more than 150 hours. When he's not giving his time to the music program, Brad contributes to the LINK Crew, and is a member of the rugby team. Outside of school, Brad has volunteered with the Air Cadets and Salvation Army where he helps troubled youth during both the ball hockey summer camp, and the basketball camp. Brad hopes to continue helping other teens after graduating from GDHS, which gives him a sense of purpose in life and a great deal of personal satisfaction.
