Celtic Fiddle Orchestra to form Rehearsals to begin on Thursday The Georgetown Celtic Fiddle Orchestra is a brand new group that is being created to bring violinists, fiddlers, guitar players, and flautists together to learn, and perform music from the Celtic traditions. Under the direction of James Franczek the musicians will work on Scottish, Irish, and Cape Breton tunes in an orchestra style setting and then perform in concerts, and events in and around the Georgetown area. This orchestra is designed to introduce a whole new style of orchestra to the Georgetown community. The group is modelled after the Oakville Celtic Fiddle Club, now into its fifth year. Franczek is also the director of the Oakville Celtic Fiddle Club, which has grown to more than 20 musicians (most had never played before) and recorded two CDs. "I would like to share my love of traditional music and do great things for music education in Georgetown as well," said Franczek. The orchestra will start rehearsals on Thursday June 2, at 7:30 p.m. And continue for five weeks until the end of June. Then the group will break until Thursday September 8. Members will be given music to practice over the summer. Weekly rehearsals will be at the Georgetown School of Music at 330 Guelph Street (across from Canadian Tire). Musicians and music students of all ages that play or want to learn how to play traditional celtic music and share it with their community in a fun and supportive orchestra are wanted. There is a place for anyone that has been playing their instrument for more than two years and it doesn't matter if you are 12 or 80 years old. This is a great opportunity if you take classical lessons and would like to learn more about fiddle music. Musicians are asked to pay $4 each for the first five rehearsals and beginning in September there will be a $25 annual fee and $15 per month. For more information or to RSVP your attendance call 905-877-2770. For more details check out www. georgetowncelticclub.com. ABOUT a month ago we had a fire in our building, Cote Terrace, turned out to be a false alarm. My neighbour Vicki and I needed assistance to make it up to our 4th Floor Apartment and Peter and John were ever so helpful, we couldn't have done it without their help, and we give credit to the Fire Department for their help and all the others that they have helped as well. Sincerely, BJ McQueen
