For those who live here it is a place where small-town feel isn't just a feeling but an action. Have something to celebrate? The whole neighbourhood shows up. Going through some hard times? The whole neighbourhood shows up and brings their friends too! Thus it isn't surprising that when asked to come up with a theme for the Big DADDY Festival that honours fathers and families Acton came up with a gem: Random Acts of Kindness. This theme, supported across the community by individuals, church groups, schools and more, is about making small anonymous gestures of goodwill throughout your day to make someone else's life better. If you have been around Acton over the past week you may have already been a recipient! Two very special Acts of Kindness are happening during the Saturday event as well. Lauren Matsuo and Dad Glenn are getting their hair cut for the second time with all proceeds going to CAShh. Another fundraiser is also being featured, the Paws for Austin campaign, which has the ambitious goal of raising $30,000 for a young boy in Acton with autism in need of a trained companion dog. A full week of kindness wraps up on Saturday with an old-fashioned family picnic, karaoke, the Acton Idol preliminaries, and a movie at dusk. Make sure you drop by with your Dad to have some fun and get your warm fuzzies it is not to be missed! 3 Big Daddy Thursday, June 16, 2011 Xs and Os for dad Curtis Clarke, above, gets kisses and hugs from his little girls, Shaelyn, 2 1/2 and Cyan, 4.
