Council supports trucking centre, When Dad deserves the very best...a BBQ because `we really need the money' Continued from pg. 1 He asked that First Gulf, who had representaives sitting in the public gallery, take back a message to its prospective tenant, "We are a very willing council." Mayor Rick Bonnette said he was pleased to "wholeheartedly" support this project, because, "It's not every day we may have the opportunity to get a 1.4 million sq. ft. building that could potentially bring 500 jobs to our community." Bonnette said Halton Hills is in competition with another municipality on the location of this Fortune 400 company, so "we have to make a zoning amendment to make it happen and that's what we're doing in a short period of time." Bonnette said the residents' concerns are valid, and noted the project will still be subject to the site plan process to make improvements. Councillor Joan Robson, who also represents the area, said it not only was a good application, "we really need the money." "Seriously it's good to see business come to Halton Hills; we've been waiting a long time," she added. Eighth Line resident Vic Hendrickson, who opposed the project at last week's public meeting, based on the heavy truck traffic on Steeles Ave. and an inadequate intersection at Trafalgar Rd. was lukewarm on Monday. While he did not give his wholehearted support, he did express appreciation to First Gulf representatives and Town Economic Development Office Doug Penrice for meeting with him during the week to assauge some of his concerns. He said the proposed outdoor storage, changes to the Prestige Industrial and Gateway zoning, and the poor road infrastructure in the 401 Corridor will have an impact on the broader community and more time should be given for public comment. Fogal said with the lack of activity in the 401 Corridor, it is hard for Halton Hills regional representatives to move Halton Hills road projects, like Steeles Ave. improvements, ahead on Halton Region's schedule. "We keep getting pushed back," she said. But with this project and the two proposed retail outlet centres in the Corridor, residents may now see a great improvement in the road network, Fogal said. Tae Ryuck, First Gulf's planning consultant, agreed that hopefully the DCs from this project could expediate improvements to the Corridor roads. 5 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, June 16, 2011 ·89,600 sizzling BTU's ·2 Grilling Lights ·Stainless Steel · Infared Rotisserie Burner All BBQ's ON SALE Plus Free Delivery & Free Assembly ·Great Charcoal Taste ·Porcelain Finish ·10 Year Warranty ·52,000 BTUs ·3 Stainless Steel Dual-TubeTM burners ·Natural Gas or Propane · 725 sq. in. total cooking area Sovereign 90 Limited Time Offer.
