SHOP HALTON HILLS Melanie Frazer (The Club at North Halton) When people think of private golf clubs, one word comes to mind: snobby. This is definitely not true about The Club at North Halton, says Melanie Frazer, the club's marketing manager. "North Halton is probably the most fun place in Georgetown," says Frazer, who has been working at the club since February. "The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and our balcony is legendary. Members build lifelong friendships here." The Club at North Halton has been a hub of activity since the club opened in 1954. In addition to a championship golf course, the club offers curling and social memberships at reasonable prices. Each year, members are invited to a variety of social events, including monthly food and wine tastings, Christmas parties and Extravaganza - a big outdoor event where club members bring their families for a night of music and fireworks. The club is also open to private events like weddings, business meetings and Christmas parties. For Melanie, working at The Club at North Halton has been a dream come true. The Georgetown South resident loves working in the same community she lives in. "We had a booth at the Farmers' Market on the weekend and I saw a lot of club members out and about with their families," she says. "Georgetown is a community where people want to spend their time here and I think that speaks to the great people and services we have here." As the owner of Vantage Roofing, Jim and his colleagues sell and install residential metal roofing from well-known manufacturer Edco's Arrowline product line. "Once that metal roof goes on, it's maintenance free," says Jim, who has been in the roofing trade for five years. "It will be around forever." Metal roofs are becoming more and more popular due to their longevity and the energy efficiency. Edco's products are Energy Star rated and fire resistant, which makes home insurance rates go down. Now in its second season, Vantage Roofing provides free estimates during a no-pressure in-home sales call. The company offers low prices by cutting out the middleman and delivering the roofing products directly from the manufacturer to the client's home. News of Vantage Roofing's good service and good prices with no hidden costs has spread with Jim getting more and more calls from people referred to him by satisfied customers. "We get a lot of referrals because we do what we say we'll do when we say we'll do it," he says. "Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing the smile on people's faces at the end of the day." Acton Denture Clinic Tracy Mitchell has been a practicing denturist for over 12 years. She has served Acton and surrounding communities for over 10 of those years at her clinic, the Acton Denture Clinic. As an honour graduate from George Brown College in both Denturism and Dental Technology, Tracy's goal is to provide information and educate her patients. As a denturist, Tracy provides individual, custom fabrication of tooth replacement by means of complete and/or partial dentures. She works independently and with other dental healthcare professionals to serve the public. Tracy completes all aspects in the fabrication of her patients' dentures in her clinic. She starts with the impressions, proceeding to a bite registration, then to the set up of the teeth and a wax try-in. When the patient is pleased with the try-in, Tracy completes the dentures in her on-site lab by processing, trimming and polishing the dentures. All work is completed in-house, along with repairs and relines to existing complete and partial dentures. As a healthcare professional, Tracy is trained to recognize oral health conditions which may be indicators of changes in overall health and well-being. "Every day I am given the opportunity to work with the challenges of individual mouths and educating patients on the importance of restoring missing teeth for overall good health," Tracy says. "It is very rewarding to make a personal connection with people and help to recreate beautiful smiles."
