An impressive list of Canadian cyclists tackled the challenging the 1.1-km loop and the event was held as a `Pointsrace' format, with points awarded to the best four athletes every five laps. Women completed 30 laps, while the men rode 45 laps of the course, with tight turns, climbs and descents at high speeds. Leah Kirchmann of Winnipeg raced to victory in the women's elite event, followed by Joëlle Numainville of Montreal. Rhae-Christy Shaw came in third place, winning her second medal at these Canadian Championships in her first appearance at the nationals. In the men's elite race, David Veilleux of Quebec took the victory, his second consecutive Canadian criterium title, followed by Ottawa's Derrick St. John in second and Benjamin Chaddock of B.C. in third. The Canadian Championships continue Thursday with the presentation of the para-cycling in Caledon, along with junior and masters road races and time trials through the weekend.
