Helson donates $1M to hospital project in honour of late wife Continued from pg. 1 Marg Helson, a lifelong Georgetown resident, died in 2008 and worked for 45 years at the downtown Georgetown CIBC branch. One of her early duties at the bank was looking after the donation `thermometer' in front of the bank that would track the amount raised in the original fundraising campaign to build the hospital more than 50 years ago. Fred Helson often did legal work for the hospital during its early years. He earned a degree in chemistry and worked for a time for Baxter Medical before earning his law degree and having a successful career with the firm Helson Kogon Ashbee and Schaljo on Mill Street. "Marg and I both had to endure the unpleasant experience of being sent to other hospitals for CT scanning," said Helson. "Our hospital was important in making Georgetown a self-sufficient town and, as such, I feel it is important for us to help keep the facility up-to-date for our doctors and staff, as well as all of the patients who come to Georgetown Hospital for care." "The Helsons' longtime support of the hospital and community are inspiring-- they have truly made their mark in Georgetown," said Halton Healthcare Services president and CEO John Oliver. "In recognition of the Helsons' generous support, their significant contribution will be celebrated as the new CT scanner suite will be named after Fred and his wife Marg. We thank the Helsons for this gift and their years of commitment to the hospital." The current project will see the construction of a new 14,000 sq. ft. emergency department, the addition of the CT scanner and the expansion of the diagnostic imaging department. Earlier last week the Georgetown Hospital Volunteers Association pledged $250,000 to the campaign-- named Campaign for Georgetown Hospital: Investing in Care-- Close to Home-- while the Georgetown Lions Club pledged $75,000. 3 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 TD Canada Trust New Small Business Advisor Marco Palermo 289-924-0016 marco.palermo@td.com We'd like to introduce Marco Palermo as your New Small Business Advisor.
