In Focus, July, 2011 4 Letter from In Focus As a longtime resident of Glen Williams, I drive along Confederation Street several times a day on my way to and from work. With its tree-lined roadway, views of the river and cute houses, the route is always lovely. That being said, we're coming up on my favourite time of year to cruise down Confederation. In the days leading up to the big Canada Day in the Glen celebration, members of the Glen Williams Town Hall Board put Canadian flags on every telephone pole and streetlight in the hamlet. The flags are taken down soon after Canada Day, but those few days of flag-lined motoring are my favourite driving days. To me, there is something so thrillingly patriotic about driving under a canopy of our country's red and white flags. It's like being wrapped in a warm hug of Canadian pride while heading through the Glen in my own little one-car parade. This must be what Stephen Harper or Barack Obama or the Queen feel like when they head out and see rows of flag-waving citizens. So if you find yourself in the Glen in the days just before and just after Canada Day and you see a girl waving crazily out her car window, it's probably just me pretending to be in a parade. Don't worry: it will stop as soon as the flags are taken down. But before we start celebrating Canada Day, let's look back at what happened in June. In this issue, you will find photos from local fundraising walks/relays, farmers' market openings, school events and the Highland Games. There is also a special twopage spread of pictures from the Big Daddy Festival, which took over Halton Hills on Father's Day weekend. Dozens of local seniors enjoyed a fun night out on June 6 at the Georgetown Seniors Centre's annual Variety Night. Hosted by the seniors centre's Drama Club, the show included live music, jokes, skits and musical tributes, as well as performances from special guests like St. Andrew's Kehillah Group, the Doherty School of Irish Dancing and the Milton Kitchen Band.
