Postcard campaign gains momentum Continued from pg. 1 "We have had a constant stream of citizens coming to my office picking up anywhere from 10 to 500 post cards. No doubt people are very concerned for the future of their community," said Bonnette. The cards are also now available at additional locations including the Seniors Centres in both Acton and Georgetown and the Gellert Centre. Longtime Georgetown resident Peter Motem has picked up hundreds of the cards and is taking them door to door in town hoping to raise awareness of the issue and encourage residents to send them in. He does not want to see the highway built near town. He sees Georgetown as a "safe alcove in the GTA" and wants to keep it that way. Tooth Chatter 5 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, July 5, 2011 REGULAR CHECK-UPS Has it been a while, since we've seen your smile? We recommend a check-up yearly as preventative maintenance to ensure that your gums are healthy and your dentures are fitting well. Over time, your mouth goes through considerable changes, such as tissue shrinkage and loss of underlying bone support. Your checkup will include: medical history, update; checking your denture for fit, stability, cracks, chips, scratches, worn or loose teeth; an oral exam for detection of tissue inflammation or abnormalities. Having a healthy mouth plays an important part of a healthy body. Your yearly check-up for preventative maintenance is one of the many ways of keeping the goal of optimum health. Remember: at our office your visit is always complimentary! Because nothing is as important as your health, make the time you deserve. Your smile will thank you for it! Call our office for an appointment today. Creating confident smiles since 1982. Photo by Chris Payne Band to rock here on Saturday By MICHAEL BURTON Special to The IFP Open wide for the release of Thunderhawks newest record Tongues. To promote the release of their newest EP, Thunderhawks will be rocking St. John's United Church in Georgetown on Saturday July 9. "We're really excited, and we're very proud of the album," said Jeff Richards, front man of Thunderhawks. Richards has been singing in the pop punk band since its inception in 2008. Although the band has experienced member changes, the five-piece Georgetown band is incredibly proud, and excited for the release of its second record. Thunderhawks regularly perform across the GTA. With members from Gergetown and Acton, Thunderhawks released their first self-titled EP in March of 2009. They then embarked on their first tour of the Canadian east coast in July of last year. "Starting off in a small town everyone knows you," Richards said. "There's not really a lot to do, and when there is a show you get a lot of the same people coming out. Playing in small towns is way better than in a big cities. For some reason I find the smaller towns bring out the most people. They are always the ones to spread the word about your band." The band's newest recording was recorded at Paragon Studios in Caledon. Richards said that this effort promises more structure, and more in-depth song writing. "We came first on this record," he said. "We started writing music so that when we play it, we enjoy it. Hopefully everyone else enjoys it too. Tongues is a lot easier to listen to, and every song is different. We've cut down on the riffs and focused more on the song writing itself." The July 9 concert will include support from Georgetown locals Half Beat, as well as Toronto band Teenage Kicks, and July. The evening promises to be a night of safe, fun, rock and roll in Georgetown. "Georgetown shows are always incredible, and we're hoping to make this one the best," Richards said. "Just come and have fun because it's going to be a great show to be a part of." Tickets are available at the door for this event, and through members of Thunderhawks. We all know that distractions are a dangerous combination and common part of driving on today's congested roadways. Any way to lessen the number of distractions faced daily would greatly help one to focus on the task at hand, and get on with their day. At the Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we do not condone the use of cell phones while driving, but when absolutely necessary, a hands free device, such as a speaker phone, line OnstarTM or a bluetooth connected earpiece can be very useful and help reduce distraction - not to mention allow the driver the use of both hands. At The Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we provide a wide variety of custom fit and non custom fit bluetooth hands free devices. The Georgetown CASH PRIZES Call 905-877-7166 for details.
