As the defending Founders Cup champs, the Halton Hills Bulldogs will have to make a much longer trip this time around if they're able to advance to the national championship tournament again this summer. The 2010 tourney was held just a 40-minute drive away at the MasterCard Centre in Etobicoke and the 'Dogs benefited from having several hundred of their fans on hand for their thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over the host Mimico Mountaineers in the gold medal matchup. But as head coach Blaine McCauley pointed out, last year's trip to the Founders Cup still didn't come cheaply despite the relatively short travel distance from Halton Hills because the team stayed in a Toronto hotel for the entire week. It's the second time that Saskatoon has been the site of the annual Canadian Lacrosse Association championships and the host Saskatchewan Swat figures to be much more competitive this year as they lead the Rocky Mountain Tier I Jr. B league with a 15-4 record and have picked up some out-of-province players.
