Photos by Ted Brown Region backs Town on highway opposition By CHRISTINA COMMISSO Metroland Media Group The Region's planning committee hopes to send a strong message to the Province over what they deem an "unnecessary" highway cutting through Halton Hills. During Wednesday's meeting, the committee said they would not support one of the two new highways identified in the provincial GTA West Corridor study. An east-west corridor (dubbed option 4-3) that spans across Georgetown between Five and 10 Sideroads and ends at Hwy. 401 and Tremaine Road is strongly opposed by Halton Hills residents and council, and now the Region has come on board. The study also identifies a north-south corridor from Halton Hills' east side to Hwys. 401/407 (option 4-2), which was endorsed by the Town. Option 4-2 would support future employment lands and provide key ramp connections that serve more long-distance, inter-regional traffic. The Province maintains that elements of both corridors are required to manage future growth in the GTA and the route would eliminate the need to widen Hwy. 401 through Milton to a core-collector system See REGION, pg. 3 Vi s i t o u r s h o w r o o m $&+,//(6 0$='$ 2I 0LOWRQ 6WHHOHV $YH 0LOWRQ 21 /7 ; ZZZDFKLOOHVPD]GDFD · your window & door professionals · LQIR#DFKLOOHVPD]GDFD 3KRQH 3KRQH 7 R O O I U H H )D[ Quality & Service You Can Count On! 332 Guelph Street, Georgetown (Across from Canadian Tire) 341 Guelph St., Unit 3 Georgetown 905.873.0236 www.buy-wise.ca info@buy-wise.ca · awarded readers choice 16 times · 905-702-0885 www.bathstudio .ca
