YOU ANDJake YOUR PET has been displaced New kitten rescue group is launched A new kitten rescue is now available to provide foster care to the vulnerable and needy felines in the community-- stray and or abandoned moms and kittens. The North Halton Kitten Rescue's (NHKR) goal is to assist with the control of stray kittens in north Halton by fostering and adopting them into loving homes. When a kitten comes into the foster program they are given a veterinary check, vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, microchipping, spay or neutering and a bag of food to ease the transition into a new home. All for an affordable $160. Homeless moms and kittens will be accepted into the NHKR program when ever foster space is available and there are sufficient funds to ensure appropriate care. The first NHKR fundraiser will be a garage sale, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at the Limehouse Memorial Hall, 12389 Fifth Line (at 22 Sideroad). Donations can be left at 11 Edith St., Georgetown or 185 Jeffrey St., Acton. More fundraisers are planned for the late summer and fall. The NHKR is member of a larger community of animal rescues known as `Helping Homeless Pets (HHP). Through HHP donors contributing to NHKR will receive tax receipts. To make a donation please go to http://www.helpinghomelesspets. com, fill out the donation form and specify the North Halton Kitten Rescue. Along with donations NHKR is looking for volunteers who can help with all sorts of activities. If you would like to find out more please contact info@nhkr.ca or drop into the launch meeting this Sunday, July 17, 7:30 p.m., at Halton Regional Police Station, 217 Guelph St. Georgetown. Contact Roberta Adair 905-702-9050 if you can help or for more information. The meaning of the name "Jake" is "supplanter" but our Jake, rather than displacing someone else has indeed been "displaced" himself. This non-demanding boy deserves to be re-homed as soon as we can find the right family. Looking for a dog that is more mature, easy to manage and who will love you with all his heart; please look no further. Jake's demeanor shows no outward sign of being displaced, he appears totally accepting of these new circumstances which cannot be easy on him. Dogs hide their true feelings but Jake presents with a serene and loving nature and his thoughts are his own-- a wonderful attitude from a boy that spent ALL his life with a family and now has to begin a new different path. Can anyone guess the loneliness, bewilderment and anxiety he might be feeling in his little heart? Jake is a male lab/coonhound mix 31 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, July 14, 2011 eight years young. There is something about this boy, a little portly at 70 lbs, packed in a black coat with little dashes of tan and white and sporting white socks. We have found Jake to possess many pluses including: good with children and other dogs (no information on reaction to cats but probably would pass with flying colours). Jake is on the low scale for energy, great to walk, has his basic commands, housebroken, not destructive. Most of all and so important: Jake LOVES people and the Shelter Staff have found him easy to deal with and absolutely no problems have come to light. We need Jake to enjoy the safety of a fenced yard for his own protection and exercise while the family are relaxing on the patio. Jake would be a wonderful addition to a family where a lower energy dog would be welcomed, he would suit adults only, or an attentive family who want a dog that will be a real member of the family. Jake pulled at my heartstrings, endearingly plump, wise for his years and very loving. This boy is so patiently waiting for you, please call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e-mail adoptions@uppercredit.com. UCHS stories by JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Photos by Claudia Duijsens www.claudiaduijsens.com Calico Claire is very cuddly, described as `little monkey' Prettily marked Calico Claire is an elusive, quiet, demure little lady who presents as nervous, even withdrawn, amongst so many other feline residents. Claire demonstrates the "if I shrink back into my shell I can pretend I am not here syndrome" but we feel this is not the real Claire. Not much is known about Claire's formative years or how she lived before arriving at the Shelter in March 2011, but she has been assessed at being around four years young. Claire was spayed somewhere along the line and most probably had a home of her own, even love, as she quickly reacts with excitement to that magic stimulant of the senses-- the treat bag! An adult-only home would allow Claire to settle in quickly, because when she can exercise on her own. Claire will follow Staff around the room seeking out love and affection. Once in your arms Claire is VERY cuddly, we call her a "little monkey" as she gently grabs on to you as though she never wants to be put down. Beautiful Claire with her delightful calico markings, is described by staff as such a lovely, delicate soul ...well suited to a quiet home with a family who would love a "lap" cat. Please give her a chance, call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e-mail adoptions@uppercredit.com.
