Diamond ring, bikes among items turned in to local police station By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer A ladies diamond ring has been turned over to Halton Regional Police. The ring was found in the area of Georgetown Market Place sometime over the past month and was recently handed in to police. "We would like the owner to get the ring back," said Halton Regional Police Const. Maureen Andrew. "We often have items turned in that are never claimed. "There are some very honest people out there," she said. As well as the ring, Andrew said police also currently have about 20 bicycles that have been recently brought to the police station. The items stay at the Georgetown station for a month, then are taken to the Oakville station, and after 45 days are put up for auction. She encourages anyone missing a bicycle or ring to go to the police station. She said in the case of the ring if the owner has a photo of it, or a receipt to show ownership they should bring that with them as police have to be satisfied it's the rightful owner before turning it over to someone. To claim the ring contact Andrew at 905-878-5511 ext. 2109 or email Maureen.andrew@haltonpolice.ca 5 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, July 14, 2011 WEEKEND FORECAST...
