Photos by Jon Borgstrom No end in sight to scorching heat wave Area residents have been baking during the current heat wave but we might not be fully cooked yet. There appears to be no end in sight to the scorching heat southern Ontario has experienced this week and the heat alert Halton Region issued Monday could extend for several more days. "We're being hit by double whammies here," says David Phillips, senior climatologist at Environment Canada. "The heat is high and the humidity is too-- but where is the precipitation?" Temperatures have been in the 30C range all week, with today set to break records with a high of 38C, feeling more like the mid- to high 40s with the humidex reading. The mercury will drop toward the weekend, but only slightly, hovering around 30C. "We're clearly going to break records on individual days," says Phillips. He emphasizes that these temperatures are all in the shade and that they are 6 or 7 degrees higher under the sun, without even accounting for the humidex. See HOT, pg. 5 REFINANCING? PURCHASING?
