Ryan Day Percheron Hitch at the Georgetown Fall Fair This year the Georgetown Fall Fair's theme is "Horses" and to celebrate the Fair will be featuring one of North America's Top Percheron Six Horse Hitches who will be on display at the Fair all weekend long. This outstanding hitch of black Percherons is owned by the Black family of Hillsburgh, Ontario. Four generations of Blacks are involved in this high quality Percheron breeding operation. Reg Black started breeding and showing Percheron horses over forty years ago and now his son Bob and grandson Ryan, along with Ryan's two young sons, have continued the family business, now showing under the Ryan Day prefix. The Blacks are recognized as having one of the outstanding show hitches and they are one of the premier Percheron breeders in North America. The bloodlines they have developed have left a lasting mark on the breed and continue to do so today. These beautiful big black horses will be on display in an attractive 60x60 tent all weekend long for people to visit up close and picture at the fair. The Blacks will be doing demonstration hitches as well as participating in the Draft Horse Show on the Sunday of the Fair. Spectators will be able to see the Percheron horses' show harness, wagon and other equipment used to show and transport these huge draft horses to shows and fairs across North America. Page 4 Georgetown Fall Fair Prize List RULES OF THE GEORGETOWN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY · Annual membership fee is $5.00 payable on or before March 31st of the current year. · The dates of the Georgetown Fall Fair will be the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after the Labour Day Weekend. · Gates are open Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. · All persons entering the Fairgrounds must pay an admission fee. There will be no exceptions. This applies to officials of the Fair, employees, exhibitors, performers, concessionaires, and Fair visitors. · All those who have paid their exhibitor fee for the current year are entitled to enter or exhibit for prizes. · In lieu of entry fees in certain Livestock classes, a 15% deduction will be made on prize money. · All protests about awards must be made in writing within 10 days of the Fair, and be accompanied by a $10.00 fee. The $10.00 fee will be returned if an error is found to have been made. Onus of proof is with the exhibitor. · The Board of Directors reserves the right if, for any cause, the receipts of the current year are not sufficient to pay the prize money in full, to pay such proportion as they have on hand after paying necessary expenses. · Any name or mark on any article or animal identifying the exhibitor is illegal, and prize money will be forfeited. · The judges have the right to rule out any article or animal that they deem wrongly classed, or which they consider unworthy of a prize. · The Society takes precaution to ensure the safety of articles or exhibits but, should any article be damaged, lost or stolen, the Society will not be held responsible for the value thereof. · The Society takes precautions to prevent accidents on the grounds, but will not be held responsible for any accidents to persons or property. · Exhibits or concessions are not to be removed before the close of the Fair on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. · No concessions will be allowed to be placed on the Fairgrounds until sanctioned by the Board of Directors (except the Midway, which is under contract). The Directors or the Police can rule out any concession of a dubious nature, including the Midway, if deemed necessary. · All exhibitors and concessions must sign a "Hold Harmless Agreement" before setting up on the Fairgrounds. · Except in livestock, only one entry will be allowed in each section. None of this information whatsoever will be sold or transferred to any outside party for any reason. 2011 President's Message It is my honour to represent the members of the Georgetown Agricultural Society in welcoming you, fellow citizens, to the 165 th annual Georgetown Fair. We're excited to bring some new shows to your Fair, while maintaining the old favourites. Georgetown Fair has contracted a NEW midway, the Magical Midways, a clean, high quality show to thrill the young and old. Our theme this year is HORSES !! And we're not horsing around when we say it will be excellent, from the educational aspects of all the events, to the thrill of the Jumpers to the marvel of the Miniature Horses and the Might of the Gentle Giants, the Heavy Horse show. Check our web-site or fliers for details. In addition there will be a special display tent housing Black's Percherons, an outstanding exhibit of Work Horses and their gear. The Main Stage welcomes many acts throughout the Fair, and several acts will be travelling the grounds doing spontaneous shows, as may some of the Globe Theatre players. Thrill Shows Demolition Derby is back Saturday night with all the roar and wreckage you've come to love. The 4 by 4 Truck Pulls will show their power on Sunday. In a quieter corner of the Fair, the Home Crafts Bldg. holds the beautiful displays of sundry handcrafts, baking, the Fruit and Vegetable entries, and the Childrens' Section. There you'll find displays, hands-on crafts, Giant sand-box, stage shows, and on Sunday morning, the Fantastic Pet Show followed by the Famous Peddle Pull! Just outside the Homecraft Building the kids can experience the Petting Zoo. And Folks, these are just the Highlights!! Pullers may stop and re-pull once providing he/she has not crossed the 50' marker. 12. No snowplow ­ frame only. 13. Production wheel base and highway drivable. 14. No dual wheels, steel bars or tire chains. 15. All engine power must be transmitted to the ground through the wheels. 16. All tires must not exceed 36 inches in diameter by 14 inches wide, and must have a D.O.T. stamp on tire. 17. All trucks must have a non restrictive forward and backward foot throttle operation. 18. All trucks must have a working ignition switch that is easily accessible to driver. 19. An open exhaust is allowed providing exhaust pipe extends straight back beyond the cab or straight vertical above the cab roof behind the cab. 20. All truck body parts must be in place. 21. Last year we had an exceptional hall display thanks to you, our exhibitors, for the wonderful creative work and high quality workmanship. Entries may be brought in on Wednesday 4 p.m. till 9 p.m. and Thursday morning 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Judging commences at 1 p.m. on Thursday. If you have children entering please remember their entries must be in by 7 p.m. on the Wednesday for judging. It is always disappointing for us and the children when entries come in later or on Thursday after the judging has been done. In 2010, 43 pairs of mittens were donated to the Georgetown Bread Basket and Halton Women's Place. Maybe we can double that this year. See Community Challenge #55 in the Needlework Class. Glenda Benton, President Homecraft Division Georgetown Fair RULES AND INFORMATION FOR HOMECRAFTS (a) Exhibitors in Homecrafts may be individuals or organizations wishing to show as a group, with prize money going to the treasury of the organization. (b) Children and Juniors (12 to 17 years of age) do not pay a fee to enter exhibits in their own Prize Lists but, if they wish to compete in any Adult section, they must register as an Adult exhibitor, pay a fee of $5.00 and submit a completed Entry Form with their exhibit. Page 21 Georgetown Fall Fair Prize List Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT COMPETITION General Conditions A. Entries must be solely made and quilted by a group or individual and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies' (O.A.A.S.) to be eligible for this competition. B. Entry quilts must be a minimum of 72" x 90" (smaller quilts will not be eligible to proceed to the next levels of competition). C. Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A Provincial Grand Champion Quilt will be selected at the Annual Convention of O.A.A.S. D. Upon making an entry into the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Quilt Competition, the Exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition E. The winning Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies Champion Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future District and/or Convention OAAS competition. F. The winner's name & pattern to be displayed at the Fair on sign provided by OAAS. LOCAL FAIR COMPETITIONS 1. Each local fair is entitled to send only the Grand Champion Quilt (judged Best of Show of all hand quilted Eligible quilts) to the District competition. OR If any entry wins Grand Champion or Best of All Eligible quilts at more than one Fair, the other Fairs at which this quilt was entered and won, should enter their Reserve Champion or Second Best of Show of All Eligible quilts in the District Competition. Note: If an Exhibitor wins Grand Champion or Best of Show of All Eligible quilts at other than his/her own Fair, or at more than one Fair, the Exhibitor must consider the Agricultural Society nearest his/her home address as the one from which the quilt will be sent to the District Meeting. 2. An Exhibitor who wins more than one Best of Show title with a different quilt at different Fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning quilt to compete at the District Competition. 3. Local Homecraft Divisions are requested to judge a Grand Champion or Best of Show of All Eligible quilts. As well as Reserve Grand Champion or Second Best of Show of All Eligible quilts. The Grand Champion and the Reserve Grand Champion are judged from All First and Second Prize Eligible Quilts. DISTRICT COMPETITIONS 1. Judging quilts at the District Competitions will be the responsibility of each OAAS District. 2. The first place winning hand quilted quilt from the District Competition is eligible to enter the OAAS Championship Quilt Competition at the Annual Convention. In cases where the winner of the District First Prize Quilt decides not to enter the Final Championship Competition, the Second Prize quilt winner at the District Competition will be eligible. 3. The OAAS will award a ribbon and prize money of $25 for 1st place, $15 for 2nd and $10 for 3rd to Exhibitors of winning hand quilted quilts at each District Competition. 4. All District entries must be registered on the OAAS Championship Quilt Entry Form, returned to the OAAS, c/o Kathryn Lambert, by Dec. 1st for payment of prize money. (NOTE: Late entry forms may disqualify the District Quilt entry from competition.) OAAS CHAMPIONSHIP QUILT COMPETITION 1. Judges who officiate the Championship Quilt Competition at the Annual Convention will be appointed by the OAAS. 2. All quilts, entered in the competition must be hand quilted. 3. All quilt entries must be received for judging by the Competition Coordinator in the designated room between 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Friday of the Annual Convention of the OAAS. 4. The Competition Coordinator will assign a number for each entry. Entries will only be designated by this number during the judging process. 5. No Exhibitor shall be permitted to place or attach any Fair or other Exhibition identification on their quilt entry. Please remove all tags, ribbons, etc. 6. No persons other than the judges and designated officials will be permitted to enter the designated judging room until after the quilt judging and winner has been announced. 7. Any Exhibitor or any person acting on behalf of the Exhibitor who violates any of the Rules and Regulations or who interferes with the judges or the judging process, shall be disqualified and the quilt will be removed from the competition. 8. No quilt exhibit shall be removed from the display viewing area until the official closing of the viewing room and designated time of pick up. 9. The OAAS shall not be held liable for any loss occasioned by fire, theft, accident, condition of quilt, the negligence of other Exhibitors, officials or otherwise. 10. Any protests must be made to the Homecraft Committee of the OAAS in writing within 5 working days after the last day of the Convention. 11. The entry judged Best of Show at the February Convention will be declared the OAAS Championship Quilt. A $500 Grand Prize will be awarded and the Exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt. A certificate and ribbon will also be awarded to the winner. Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies ANNUAL MACHINE-QUILT/WALL HANGING COMPETITION General Conditions A.
