The 18-year-old member of the Guelph-based Speed River club placed seventh in the 5,000m run at last weekend's Panamerican Track & Field Championships in Miramar, Fla. Her time was 40 seconds off her personal best for that distance due to the heat and humidity, along with travel delays in getting to the stadium, although Driedger was thrilled to represent Canada at an international meet for the third time this year, after competing at the World Cross Country Championships in Spain in March and another event in Trinidad in February. The Georgetown District High School grad also earned a silver medal in the 2,000m steeplechase and a bronze in the 3,000m at the Canadian Junior Championships held in Winnipeg earlier this month. Driedger, who was named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's rookie of the year for 2010-11, begins her second year of studies at the University of Guelph in September. Submitted photo $ 2012 Civic.
