Miss Acton Pageant opens fair The Miss Acton Pageant will take place on the opening night of the Acton Fall Fair, Friday, September 16. This year's host is Stacey Unsworth The winner will begin a year-long experience of representing the Acton Agricultural Society and the town of Acton at numerous functions and events. If the winner qualifies, she'll be entered into the Ambassador of the Canadian National Exhibition contest in 2012. If you are between the ages of 16 and 22, attend Acton High School or live in Acton, Limehouse, Ballinifad or Rockwood areas, you are invited to be a contestant. The contestants meet with the Pageant committee on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Agricultural Building in Prospect Park at 7 p.m. to fill out information sheets and rehearse. The Pageant format consists of a private interview with a panel of judges, an onstage appearance and greeting, and a two-minute prepared speech on a preapproved topic. After these judgings are completed, finalists are chosen and they are asked to answer a random question. The qualities the judges will be looking for in the next Miss Acton are: her ability to make people feel comfortable; her friendliness and attitude; presentation and public speaking, poise and control. Contestants are to bring two outfits the night of the pageant. The first is to be more conservative (something you would wear to a job interview). The second outfit is to be more formal and reflect how you would portray yourself if you were selected to be Miss Acton. Make-up services are available to those who wish to use them. All contestants receive a small gift and passes to the fair.
