Letters to the editor What do candidates have for YOUth? Dear editor, As the provincial election is approaching, and seems to be a hot topic for everyone, I was considering the promises that are being made, and what are the candidates' forthcoming plans for our community.... especially for youth in Halton Hills! Being a youth, I am curious to find out what our next MPP is going to contribute towards developing the potential of our upcoming generations. What facilities will be provided for youth in addition to what we have? What are their plans for post-secondary education in Halton Hills? Are there any plans for a university in our community so that we do not have to commute or live away from home? What are the incentives for youth to participate in community growth? Unfortunately, I didn't see much for youth in the provincial agenda. The list is endless but it is the right time that we should talk. Therefore, I urge all YOUth in our community to ask each and every candidate on September 30 at the Gellert Comimpressed with the positive way the coaches interact with the kids and that every child is encouraged to participate at their own level. Consequently, the Town should do everything they can to keep this organization open. Enrico and Louise Vonghia, Georgetown Burger commended Dear editor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank an exceptional individual who is currently on a cross-Canada cycling trip to help battle childhood cancer. Mr. Mark Burger, a local firefighter, has put in countless hours over the last few months to prepare for this journey. This is the second year that Mark is participating in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride. I guess he thought last year's ride was easy, because this year Mark is riding a tandem bicycle with a 16-year-old brain cancer survivor. I have called Georgetown home for the last five years and it is people like Mark who make this community such a great place to live. Dr. Ted Niejadlik, Georgetown HHGC a positive place Dear editor, I was shocked and disappointed to read about how the Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre was negatively portrayed in your paper recently. This non-profit is critical to our community in that it fosters a nonthreatening environment in a large, open indoor space where children can interact with their peers in a non-aggressive, non-competitive way. It promotes children's (not just girls') fitness, provides physical and emotional well-being, and builds self-esteem and self-confidence. We found the HHGC to be a very positive place for our son to interact with his peers at a time when his school was unable to provide this for him.
