22 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, September 22, 2011 Twenty new members join Georgetown Seniors Centre during Open House Week By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre There is a sign in our Centre that says "the most important thing you can wear today is a smile". Cool! Well Open House Week is behind us and we owe a debt of gratitude to all who took part. Now we are set to move forward into the fall and winter season. A great big thank you goes out to the volunteers on the Social Committee, who prepared, served, and cleaned up after the New Members' Tea on Monday and the Tuesday Barbecue. I would like to thank all those who stopped by the Travel display and took the opportunity to speak with the rep from Collette Vacations and Great Canadian. It didn't take long for my famous cookies to disappear. How fortunate we were to have a celebrity cook, Gerry Kentner, conduct a cooking demonstration on the Friday. of some members we have not seen all summer. All Active Living Programs have begun. Have you looked in to take one or two of them? Most of them still have room. Volunteers are reminded to record all your volunteer hours in the big binder on the desk in the foyer. These provide important and necessary stats for the Centre. Tickets are on sale for the Justus concert to be held by the Georgetown Seniors Centre at the Alliance Church on Sunday, October 16. They sing a wide variety of music and I have heard nothing but good reports from people who have heard them perform. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Centre, 905-873-1210. All proceeds go to the Centre. Tickets for the Alia/Tan Jay fashion Show on October 31, at the Centre are now on sale. The number is limited and no tickets will be available at the door. Busy! Busy! Busy! Ain't it grand to be busy! The two recipes she cooked up were lip smacking good. Gerry, come back any time! Many new members have been received into the Centre recently. Of that number, 20 joined Open House Week. Speaks well for what we have to offer. Wonderful to see so many new faces and the return Your Total Home Comfort Specialists...
