15 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, September 29, 2011 Summer seeks a home in autumn By BARB JOHNSON North Halton Kitten Rescue Summer is young stray mom who found refuge in a garden shed in Georgetown where she delivered her five kittens. Fortunately for her, caring people discovered her family and surrendered them to the North Halton Kitten Rescue (NHKR). Her kittens are in foster care awaiting adoption and Summer would like to have a home as well. She is a wonderful companion with her repertoire of musical trilling sounds which she makes whenever spoken to or when greeting people. She is friendly with new people and does not hide when confronted with new situations or loud noises . Although Summer enjoys her face and back stroked she can become overwhelmed with too much contact. Her foster family handles her gently and she now accepts getting picked up and is learning to sit in laps to have her head petted. Grooming her short soft coat is something she likes and slowly she is accepting having her feet touched. Summer is very clean with her litter box, uses her scratching post regularly and, although very thin when found, does not overeat. When introduced to a passive male cat she was curious and friendly and with a calm dog she was cautious but not aggressive. She is content living in a home, gazing out windows observing people and the birds. Perhaps with a home of her own Summer will learn to enjoy even more attention. An ideal home for Summer would be with experienced adult cat owners who would be patient as she settles in and enjoy helping her develop into a loved cat instead of a stray on the street.
