Dulux to add colour to the Georgetown Legion The Georgetown community will look a little bit brighter later this month as dozens of volunteers come together for a painting event to infuse colour into the Royal Canadian Legion, 127 Mill St. in Georgetown. The event is being held on Friday, Oct. 14, as part of Let's Colour Week, a global initiative supported by industry leader Dulux Paints in Canada and its parent company, AkzoNobel, to increase colour awareness and add colour to people's lives. It has been made possible thanks to a $1 million investment in paint by Dulux Paints in communities across Canada. The paint, which is being invested in neighbourhoods from coast to coast, is being used to beautify public structures as well as the buildings of community, charity and nonprofit organizations. In Georgetown, Dulux has selected to paint The Royal Canadian Legion hall to revitalize the community and lift the spirits of the members who use its services and frequent the building. The current wood paneled walls of the hallways will be injected with shades of bright greens, blues and yellows. The kitchen, restrooms, bar areas and lounge will also receive a facelift. Located in the original livery stable for the town, the Georgetown Legion hall first opened more than 80 years ago. It is one branch of many across Canada that serves as a meeting place for its members and strives to look after the needs of veterans, their dependants, and those still serving in the Canadian Forces. The Legion sponsors sports, youth and senior programs, as well as supports other organizations both financially and by supplying meeting rooms and halls. The lounge and washrooms received their last paint job in 1974.
