Acton Seniors Centre has disappointing turnout for Vision for our Future meeting By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre It was an interesting Visions for our Future Centre presentation last week. The 11 members who attended had lots of ideas on what they would like to see incorporated into the design. Vice-president Dave Maloney talked about the conceptual design plan and the most frequently asked questions. It was disappointing that more people weren't able to attend. This is the first of many to be held during the next few years as the anticipated expansion of the Centre draws nearer to completion. The October social dinner was on Oct. 13. The ribs were succulent, and the rest of the meals, delicious, especially the dessert. Ninety members and friends attended. Deb Misener Jones and her daughter Lindsey entertained us with European music. They sang and played various instruments including the bells. Lindsey also played several songs on the giant alpine horn. They are both very talented. Ten people won the exotic plants that were decorating the tables and Sylvia Mitchell won the 50/50. On Tuesday, Oct. 25 there will be a presentation by Golden Umbrella on Rightsizing for Seniors. Are you worried about living alone, health problems, safety issues, overwhelming responsibilities or making ends meet? They are a team of local professionals prepared to assist you with a smooth transition into the next phase of your senior years. The magic word! -- refreshments will be served. In the afternoon at 1 p.m., in keeping with the Halloween season, the movie featured will be Edward Scissorhands, a fantasy romance. What a great way to spend a fall day. You can solve your worries in the morning, and forget your problems in the afternoon while enjoying the movie. The New Members Tea will be held on Nov. 8. Members who have joined the Centre since the last welcoming tea will receive an invitation by mail. When you receive yours, please RSVP. This is your chance to meet your board members and ask questions. Thinking of board members, several positions on the board will become vacant in February. Each board member is elected for three years, so theoretically one third of the board is elected at the Annual General Meeting in February. If you are interested in filling one of the positions please let Mary Walsma know. Just a reminder the annual Seniors Flu Clinic will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a pleasant addition to our Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 26. The Wednesday Afternoon art class will have a selection of their paintings on display and offered for sale. This is a group of very talented people. Ruth Burke was missing from the Bid Euchre players on Thursday afternoons. Hopefully she is on the mend and will be back next week. Elma Braida had the only mooner. Thanks to Marj McDonough and Shirley Broostad, our penny table is set up at the Seniors Centre for anyone wishing to get an early start on winning a lovely prize at the Bazaar.
