WPEC closes season with Volunteer Appreciation Day Families are invited to Willow Park Ecology Centre on Sunday, October 23, from noon until 4 p.m. for Volunteer Appreciation Day. Time to visit and enjoy the results of volunteer efforts before the leaves all fall and the snow flies. There will be fun native Canadian and pioneer games and activities including a drum and shaker making session from noon to 1 p.m. followed the monthly Drum Circle. The drum circle is led by Anthony Barr of the Sacred Sevens Sharing Circle. If you joined before, or if you missed the previous events, please feel welcome in a place that was well used by the First Nations in this land. Children are welcome and encouraged to participate. They will have a chance to bring the drums they made at other Drum Circles or to make their own drums or other noise-making instruments. Photos taken in the park on Sunday should be submitted online and will be judged next month in a photo contest. All entries will be displayed on the website and prizes awarded for those judged the best! Make your own Bee Box and learn about native bees. Scavenger hunt in the park-- learn more what this area can teach about our surroundings and who shares this space. Other activities include what you can do with Fall leaves, snacks and picnic lunch. After the huge success of The Georgetown Bach Chorale's venture into the land of jazz, it was unanimously agreed that this eclectic bunch of singers should saunter down Broadway one more time. Favourite jazz standards and Broadway show tunes will be sung by sultry voices as these fine singers strut their stuff backed up by piano, drums, bass, and boas. A marvelous multi-course dinner will be presented to make the evening complete.
