ENTERTAINMENT Dance in the Glen Routes of ... every Thursday Country returns On Thursdays, from 7-9 p.m., there is a place you can go and have a bit of fun, dancing. A live band plays good old country, rock and roll, jazz and other music at St. Alban's Church Hall, 537 Main St. Doors are open at 6:30 p.m. The venue is handicap accessible with lots of parking. Singles are welcome. Admission is $5. The evening is being run by three Georgetown seniors: Christine Gamus (drums), Carol Hawke and Jim Dunham (keyboard). Hawke's vocals are mainly old country style with Gamus doing a variety of blues, jazz, pop, old R&R and a bit of country. Hawke also helps out by demonstrating how to do some of the novelty dances like the bird dance, twist and macarena. "Being a group that plays all different types of music does have its problems," said Dunham. "Like Barnum & Baily said, `you can please some of the people part of the time, but never all of the people all of the time'. We are slowly finding out what the patient folks want and it's getting better." The trio is planning this to be a long-term venture and is arranging various guest musicians and singers on special nights but some theme shows. For more details, call Hawke, 416-889-0252 or Dunham, 905-873-0310. 13 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 to the Century On November 5, Muir Family Singers will return to continue the story of the growth of country music in The Routes of Country 2 at the Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh.
