The United Way has set its campaign goal at $340,000-- the highest ever. During the next two weeks the United Way direct mail brochure should be arriving at area homes asking for support. The campaign kicked off in September with a barbecue at Sobeys in Acton and the annual President's Ball, which this year raised a record amount-- more than $17,000. "With a challenging goal of $340,000, and the increased needs in our community, we will need to expand our reach into the business community to support United Way of Halton Hills," said Linda Clark, campaign chair. "During the campaign we will be contacting businesses that we have not contacted in the past. We will be offering assistance with employee campaigns as well as corporate donations. We would also like to thank the many businesses that have supported us in the past." In honour of the United Way's 25th year the agency has distributed one-time funding to 12 different agencies. The cheques were presented at the President's Ball. See CAMPAIGN, pg. 5 Now that's the GREAT pumpkin! Five-year-old Larissa Nieuwenhoff of Stewarttown didn't have to look far to find the great pumpkin this year. Here, she poses with her dad John's 1,088 lb. gourd, which took 14th place at the recent Port Elgin Pumpkin-Fest (the winning pumpkin weighed in at 1,657 lb.).
