Head to Beachfest, Nov. 5 By LOIS FRASER Kiwanis Club of Georgetown The Kiwanis Club of Georgetown has traded in its annual Harvestfest for a warmer climate, with its new party called "Beachfest". Beachfest will be held at the Gellert Centre on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and the $60 ticket includes a welcome drink, a buffet dinner catered by McMasters, a silent auction and an all-night dance party. The fresh idea came to members that, as the cold days of November come calling, we would all rather be lying on a beach...so Kiwanis is bringing the beach to Georgetown! People will get into their summerwear (or beachwear if they are really daring) and come to dance under the palms at the Gellert Centre pool viewing area. Ocean sounds will convince you that you are down south...all for the price of a limo to the airport! A live band, called Tropical Daze, will entertain us with summertime music, such as the Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley. For sample music and a songlist, see www.tropicaldaze. ca. This is a first-time event and it is going to be a riot. Where else can you get Sex on the Beach in Georgetown on a Saturday night? (Relax...it's a drink that we are serving). Fake a tan or sunburn, wear your most outrageous outfit and bring your friends. Tickets are available at 905-877-4411 or through any Kiwanis member. The Kiwanis club supports youth activities and all proceeds will go to the Kiwanis Field of Dreams project. 9 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, October 27, 2011 ER GRATE V E FU R O L F Kiwanis members Mike Francis (in front), Ken McDermot (left) and Doug Lounsbury ham it up to promote the Kiwanis Beachfest.
