Lynne Gravelle has been helping the people of Halton Hills look and feel better since 1999. Lynne, a certified electrologist and laser technician, is the owner and operator of Bare Image Electrolysis and Laser Inc. in downtown Georgetown. As the name suggests, Bare Image offers electrolysis and laser treatments to permanently remove unwanted body hair. Electrolysis, which takes between six months and a year and half to complete, involves sending a small electric current into the hair follicle to permanently destroy the root. Laser hair removal, which usually requires between four and six treatments to take effect, uses a laser to destroy or impede several hair follicles at a time. Lynne got started in the field after having permanent hair removal done herself. She had such a positive experience that she enrolled in the Electrolysis College of Canada and became a certified electrologist and laser technician. She then opened her business and has been helping the people of Halton Hills ever since. "I like making people feel good about themselves by getting rid of the stuff they hate," Lynne says. "Women and men are so busy. I give them one less thing to worry about." SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... SHOP HALTON HILLS Rainbow Connections Autism Consulting Paulette Cormier's journey with autism began when her son was diagnosed with the disorder at the age of three. After trying many different treatments and programs, Paulette was overjoyed to learn about Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®), a program that not only addressed her son's core issues, but trained her in the critical role of guiding her son's remediation. She saw amazing results, became a Certified RDI® Program Consultant, and started Rainbow Connections Autism Consulting in 2006. Paulette combines her RDI® training with her teaching background to deliver a step-by-step curriculum that targets deficits of autism (including Asperger's) previously thought untreatable. She coaches parents to become effective guides so they can fill in the missing developmental "gaps" that make life challenging for their children. She teaches parents how to use lifestyle activities such as chores, daily routines and play to create opportunities for optimal growth and development. Paulette meets with families both in person and via web conferencing to monitor progress, model strategies, and troubleshoot obstacles. She uses an on-line system that allows parents to upload videos they take of themselves interacting with their child. This allows her to provide timely feedback to continuously move progress forward. "RDI® not only helps the child progress, it also benefits the whole family," she says. "It helps parents get back to being parents of kids and not parents of kids with special needs." "So many women do not have the self confidence to look at themselves in the mirror, my goal is to help change that", says Carrie who has been training herself for 14 years. "Most women come to us because they are intimidated to work out in a gym atmosphere and need someone to motivate them. We ensure our clients are using proper form throughout each exercise and encourage them to keep going; proper nutrition is also a big part of getting fit, so eating habits are also discussed". Carrie, as well as her two trainers Sharron and Kim are certified Personal Trainers who offer strength training, core conditioning, cardio kickboxing and flexibility exercises in their workouts. A free fitness consultation is given to to each new client; this session helps the trainers to understand the client's goals and lifestyle to design a personalized fitness program that meets their needs. "We like to help motivate and coach our clients towards their goals," Carrie says. "We like to see our clients achieving results and feeling good about themselves. It is fulfilling to help women better themselves, become healthier and increase self esteem". Catherine Brazeau (HB Design) If this is you...
