SHOP HALTON HILLS PEOPLE IN BUSINESS Kati Nuttall (Royal LePage Meadowtowne Realty, Brokerage) According to Kati Nuttall, a Real Estate Sales Representative at Royal LePage Meadowtowne, the best thing about living and working in a small town like Acton is the friendly people. The bad part? "I can't run to Tim Hortons in my pyjamas," laughs Kati, who has lived in Acton for 23 years. For the last four years, Kati has been helping people with their residential and rural real estate needs in Acton, Georgetown, Erin, Caledon, Brampton, Rockwood and the surrounding areas. She has a full file of trusted lawyers, mortgage agents and home inspectors that she can recommend to her clients to help make their real estate experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. "I really focus on the client and what they need." she says "I'm not just pushing them to get a sign up on their lawn, I work hard to develop a sense of trust my clients." "They know that I know the area, the schools and other amenities in the community" says Kati, whose community involvement includes being the Commanding Officer for Acton's Air Cadets. Kati has built a trusting rapport with her clients since a good portion of her business comes from referrals. 7 PROFILES · Independent & Free Press,Thursday, October 27, 2011 SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... Denise Eden (Garden of Eden Wellness Spa) Denise Eden knows her holistic spa services can improve lives because she has witnessed it first-hand. Her sister suffers from fibromyalgia and other health issues and had travelled to Burlington for special treatments. Her positive response led Denise to open Garden of Eden Wellness Spa, which provides detoxifying treatments like colon hydrotherapy and infrared saunas. "We live in a very toxic world and what we all need to do is to get the toxins out of our bodies," Denise says. "By getting the waste out of the body, the body can work as it should." Unlike traditional saunas that only warm the body's exterior, infrared saunas heat from the core out, pushing toxins out of the body. The infrared sauna's six different programs help with things like skin problems, muscles, weight loss and sports injuries. For the colon hydrotherapy, Denise has invested in the "Cadillac of machines" that flushes out the colon in an extremely private setting. The treatment can help with pain, bloating, constipation and more. Since opening four months ago, the wellness spa has been warmly welcomed by the people of Halton Hills. "This is a very holistic town," Denise says. "When you provide good service, you will build a good rapport with people. We're here to help the community; that's the whole reason we got into it." To Be Determined Theatre Company Alexandra Lent, the owner and artistic director of To Be Determined Theatre Company, is excited to bring a new type of youth theatre to Halton Hills. During the company's 12-week Youth Production Program, youth aged 10 to 20 learn all aspects of putting on a play - from character development to set and costume design to lighting and choreography. "While the actors are busy learning these new skills they are also learning a lot about themselves and their potential, all while creating theatre and having a great time," says Alexandra, who studied theatre at the University of Ottawa, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, as well as receiving her Masters in Theatre from The University of Toronto. At the end of the 12 weeks, the students put their new skills to the test by mounting a theatrical production of a new work by Canadian artists. The first Youth Production Program started in September at the Acton Town Hall Centre: a place Alexandra instantly fell in love with. "The community worked together to buy, save and restore The Acton Town Hall," she says. "Instead of just renovating it, it was restored: they didn't put a new face on something that was already beautiful, they brought out the beauty that was already there. These are all qualities we work towards in our programs and with all our youths". To Be Determined Theatre Company will be holding a Drop-In Rehearsal on November 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. where all youth are welcome to come have fun and get a sneak peak of what the Winter Youth Production Program offers! Since then the store has doubled in size and a second store was opened this year in the nearby town of Erin. Consignment shopping has been a lifelong passion for Val and she has created the elegant boutique style of ladies stores that she had always dreamed of. The Georgetown store offers more than 2,000 square-feet of fabulous fashions for every occasion, from formal to funky, including authentic and reproduction vintage clothing and accessories. Both stores feature new and consigned fashions and accessories for women of all ages, sizes and styles. The stores carry the unique and popular Kameleon jewelry, a Canadian line of sterling silver jewelry that features a patented design of interchangeable inserts. Val's friendly and knowledgeable staff take great pride in helping customers to navigate the stores two levels and assist in finding that perfect outfit and accessories. Val invites the public to drop in and see what consignment shopping is all about. The stores are on Facebook and weekly updates of new arrivals in both stores are posted.
