The co-operative requested funds from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to fix the problems, but have gotten nowhere for more than a year. Noel Duignan, co-ordinator of the co-operative, is hopeful that will change soon after recent visits to the building by Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette and Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong, who both met with the residents, toured the building and wrote letters to CMHC on the residents' behalf. Since that visit Duignan said The Agency for Co-operative Housing, which monitors the operating agreements with co-operatives for the CMHC, finally submitted a proposal Oct. 21 to the CMHC for funding to complete already agreed to work. That work includes the replacement of more than 200 windows, renovation of the lobby, new doors and replacement of some rusted bathtubs. But the co-operative has not yet had a reply back. "We are still awaiting a decision from CMHC," said Duignan. Jenna has Prader Willi Syndrome and must limit her calorie intake, so she simply gives her Halloween candies away. This is the fourth year she and her sister have donated their candy to the residents at Extendicare.
