16 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, November 17, 2011 LV FRPLQJ WR 6DQWD Spaghetti dinner to raise funds for local child By TED BROWN Staff Writer Claire Couchman of Little Angels Home Daycare has a little girl who she has been caring for almost since she was born. Gabrielle Adair, who is five, has attended Couchman's home daycare now for nearly five years. According to Couchman, Gabrielle and her family have become an extension of her family. Gabrielle was born prematurely and has an abnormal cochlear, resulting in permanent hearing loss. Gabrielle's hearing loss has been gradual and she basically brought it to Couchman and her family's attention by saying "you have to talk to my listening ear." Couchman has also noticed lately Gabrielle has become very loud when speaking and often doesn't respond when being called. Gabrielle's father, Ted Adair, died three years ago, leaving his wife Danielle a widowed mother of two young daughters. Adair approached Couchman in October and asked her if she could help find a way to get hearing aids for Gabrielle. The cost of the hearing aids is $3,000 less $1,000 from the government through the assistive devices program. Since Couchman has been a breast cancer fundraiser year after year, she knew she could pull together a fundraiser. Couchman has teamed up with members of St. Alban's Church in Glen Williams to help make it a reality. St. Alban's offered the use of the church hall at no charge and are helping with ticket sales through the church as well. They will be hosting a spaghetti dinner at St. Alban's church, 537 Main St. S. in Glen Williams on Friday, Nov. 25, 5:307:30 p.m. Guests can drop in at a time convenient for them and are welcome to stay for as long as they like. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children aged 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. The menu consists of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread or dinner roll, dessert, and a drink. Tickets can be purchased by calling Couchman, 905877-6880, or at the door. Couchman says any money raised beyond the cost of the hearing aids will be donated to Voice For The Hearing Impaired Children in Toronto. Anyone looking for an evening of spaghetti and some great fellowship, keep Nov 25 open and enjoy the spaghetti dinner at St. Alban's. Not only will there be lots of good food, but also some good feelings, knowing that a little girl will be able to better hear the sounds of Christmas this year. <RXQJV 11 AM till1 PM, Saturday, November 26th Meet Santa and put your letter in his mail box.
