HILLSVIEW-NEWS FROM THE SENIORS CENTRES By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre It's all over! Christmas food is a thing of the past lingering only as extra pounds. It is now time to look forward to 2012. Happy New Year to all! May 2012 bring you good health, a wealth of friends and family, and, above all, peace and happiness. The Centre is slowly getting back into the swing of things after the holidays. There are always the usual drop in programs underway. We offer a wide variety of active living programs to suit the needs of everyone! Information on our active living programs and how to register is found in your current HillsView. Winter session begins the week of January 9. December was the end of your membership for 2011. If you have not already done so, please pick up the information sheet and renew your membership or, if you are not at present a member, we would like to see you too. Membership is $35 a year. You can still drop in for lunch. I have put out signup sheets for a couple more day trips, "Who's Under Where?" at Mohawk, Dinner Theatre, St. Lawrence Market and guided tour of Toronto on the Red Rocket, and "Full Monty", Aquarius Theatre, Hamilton. Come in, sign up, and remember to pick up the new yellow brochure. Toonie movies will resume Friday, January 13. I don't know, at present, what the movie will be but keep your eyes posted on the reception desk for more information. Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 16 to attend our Valentine's tea. The cost will be $5 and includes sandwiches and tea/coffee. We are proud of our facility and if you are thinking about joining us, drop in for a tour and feel our pride. See you at the Centre someday soon. Paul Stewart, along with singer/songwriters Nonie Crete and Eugene Rea performed a free concert at Georgetown Seniors Centre in aid of Georgetown Bread Basket food bank. Since 2009 Stewart, who has been blind since the age six, has been busking throughout Ontario raising funds for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc. Having finally reached his goal of $3,000, he wanted to somehow repay the people of Georgetown for their generosity. Stewart's benefit at the Senior's Centre raised $260, plus 140 lbs. of food for the food bank as well as $50 for The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc.
