ENTERTAINMENT Glen Williams resident Phil Lewin, who has two LPs from the 1970s, has released a new album, In Twilight's Quiet Hour, on CD. "It's been a while since I made an album," said Lewin, who uses the `stage name' of Philip John Lewin, "so there are 17 songs on this one." Lewin describes his music style as a mixture of progress rock, folk rock and pop. "I consider myself to be a songwriter who happens to sing, as opposed to a more traditional singer-songwriter," he said. "To me, it is about the story, told through metaphors and similes, and how the melody and arrangement complement and enhance the word's message." His early albums have a small but loyal following and have become collector's items. "I was surprised when, a few years ago, a California record dealer contacted me and wanted to purchase some of my old albums, if they were available. I discovered that, over the years since I made them, I had developed a scattered following in Asia, America and Europe." 15 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 Local songwriter releases new album Phil Lewin of Glen Williams has released a new album, In Twilight's Quiet Hour, available online or from him at his weekly jam nights at the Copper Kettle Pub. Recently, his first two albums were re-released as CDs by a Korean label, Big Pink Music Korea and are now easily available for purchase online. The new album can be heard on the Internet by going to CBC Radio 3, where they are available to be played, but not downloaded. Lewin admits to not being a fan of how music is now distributed online. He claims that, even beyond the quality issues of people listening to media on portable devices with limited range, the extensive use of song lists from individual songs limits an artist's ability to create and sustain a mood and vision from start to finish which occurs when listening to an entire album. Lewin hosts a jam night Tuesdays at 8 p.m. at the Copper Kettle Pub in the Glen. If you are interested in purchasing his CD, you can buy it directly from him.
