Left: Photo by David Ritchie Below: File photo Doctor believed to be victim of house fire By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Longtime Georgetown doctor Alex Ashenhurst is believed to have perished in a house fire in his Eighth Line home Saturday. A body was found in a bedroom of the Georgetown bungalow, located north of Wildwood Rd., after the fire was put out Saturday night. Halton Police have not identified the victim yet but Staff Sgt. Gerard Kelly told The Independent & Free Press Sunday that Ashenhurst (who retired from family practice in 2006) was the homeowner of the property. He added the body remained in the house until Sunday afternoon before it was safe for firefighters to remove the victim. Kelly said dental records will be needed to positively identify the victim. A post mortem had been scheduled for Monday. A passing motorist who saw flames coming from the house called 911 to report the fire Saturday about 10 p.m. The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
