Local man out to prove he's Canada's know-it-all By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer When Dave Spencer saw the ad for the new Discovery Channel series Canada's Greatest Know-It-All calling for competitors who "can get out of a tight spot better than MacGyver with a paper clip" he knew immediately it would be his kind of show. The 39-year-old Georgetown man-- a millwright by trade, but also an amateur inventor and former Canadian peacekeeper who in his spare time loves cake decorating, tinkering and creating new gadgets and tech-toys-- checked out the application process on line but thought it seemed too lengthy and involved, so he decided he wouldn't bother. But when his father-in-law and friends called him to tell him he would be perfect for the show and urged him to apply he reconsidered and gave it a shot. The married father of two applied last February and after several follow-up phone and Skype interviews he was finally chosen in May with nine others to be a competitor from a field of more than 1,000 applicants. The show is set to premiere on the Discovery Channel Monday (Jan. 30) at 10 p.m. and run for eight weeks.
