They lived for a year in a rural African village in Sudan in the Sahara Desert, sailed their yacht "Papillion" across the Atlantic from Cape Town to Trinidad back in 2001/2. They walked across the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans in southern Botswana and lived in Botswana for five years, motorcycled across Canada (east one year and west another) in the 1980s, kayaked down the Lilongwe River in Malawi Africa, distributed emergency food and seed in Malawi, where they lived for 10 years, lived aboard their boat while working in the Caribbean (Jacob lived on the boat for the first twoand-half years of his life) and spent a week in northern Brazil with the Yanomami Indians. During the trip Wayne will be working on his PhD and Barbara will be homeschooling Jacob.
