In Focus, February, 2012 4 Letter from In Focus I've always felt a little bit sorry for February. As a month, it's a short little thing sandwiched between the Happy-New-Year! hullabaloo of January and the hooray-it's-almost-spring! excitement of March. By this time of the winter, the novelty of the season has worn off and we're sick of the freezing cold temperatures and mountains of snow (but maybe not this year thanks to the unusually mild weather we've had so far). And to top it all off, February has that strange little "r" in the middle that everybody seems to forget about and/or curse. If February was a person, it would be a wimpy little dude with a perpetual head cold who wears sweater vests, bowties and suspenders and is picked on by all the other, tougher months. But don't feel too bad for poor little February: this seemingly pitiful little month has hidden depths. For example, February has a sweet tooth. This month, we celebrate cream cheese brownies (on the 10th), peppermint patties (the 11th), gumdrops (the 15th) and chocolate mints (the 19th). It's also a month of self-improvement and improved self-esteem thanks to Pay a Compliment Day on the 6th, followed by Dump Your Significant Jerk Day on the 7th, Laugh and Get Rich Day on the 8th and Random Acts of Kindness Day on the 17th. But most of all, February likes to have a good time. This month, don't miss Drink Wine Day on the 18th, National Margarita Day on the 22nd and, of course, HoodieHoo Day on the 20th, a day when you are required to go outside and yell "Hoodiehoo!" in hopes of scaring away Old Man Winter. But before you get too far along with your February celebrations, take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of In Focus. We have countless photos from dozens of events around town. And if you see me around town this month, be sure to stop by and say hi. You could see yourself in our next issue! Happy February!
