Dog and owner rescued after falling through ice Emergency personnel were called to Fairy Lake just before 4 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man and dog having fallen through the ice about 50 ft. from shore. Halton Hills Deputy Fire Chief John Martin said firefighters and Halton Police were able to rescue the elderly man from shore using a throw bag. Martin said the man, who was in the water for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, was somewhat disoriented and was taken to hospital by ambulance to be checked for hypothermia. The dog, a seven-year-old male Wheaton terrier, was also rescued and taken the Acton Veterinary Clinic. Sydney Marlow, of the clinic, said the dog had mild hypothermia and is doing well after sitting under heat lamps. The pooch was to be reassessed today (Thursday) after staying in the clinic overnight. Martin recommends that due to the recent warm weather, area residents should stay off the ice.
