18 The IFP · Halton Hills, Thursday, February 9, 2012 Raiders turn early lead into win Grabbing a 2-0 lead just one minute into the contest, the Georgetown Raiders had to hang on for a 6-5 victory over the Jr. Sabres in Buffalo on Monday evening. The 37-9-1 Raiders clinched top spot in the Ontario Junior Hockey League's West Division last week and will get a firstround playoff bye after the completion of the regular season this weekend. Tyson Fawcett notched a hat trick for the visitors Monday, with singles added by Nick Perruccio, Patrick Megannety and Ryan Lopes. Goalie Steven Racine improved his record to 14-0-0, making 22 saves. The Raiders will host the Jr. Sabres at the Alcott Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and go to Burlington Sunday to face the Cougars at 3 p.m. to finish the season. The top two teams in each division will receive an openinground playoff bye, while third place plays sixth and fourth takes on the fifth seed in best-of-5 divi- SPORTS & LEISURE sional quarterfinal series. The second-place Oakville Blades can certainly use the bye, having lost four of their last five starts. The Raiders won't begin the post-season until Feb. 22. It's still possible for Georgetown to finish first overall in the 27-team OJHL as they jostle with Newmarket, Trenton and St. Michael's in the final week of play. Georgetown has won nine consecutive games and 20 of their last 21. Ex-Raider captain impresses Former Georgetown Jr. A Raiders' captain Scott Wilson continues to make a good first impression for the UMass Lowell Riverhawks. The Oakville native was named the Hockey East rookie of the week for the fourth time this season after scoring twice and setting up three more in a two-game sweep of Vermont. With 13 goals and 13 assists on the season, Wilson leads the Riverhawks in scoring and is tops among all NCAA freshmen with 1.08 points per game. Wilson assisted on both game-winning goals over the weekend. He had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win Friday night and followed that up with a goal and two helpers in a 6-4 victory over the Catamounts. The seventh-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins previously earned the weekly honour in back-to-back weeks Nov. 7 and 14 and again for the week ending Jan. 23. UMass Lowell is 19-7-1 overall and 13-6-0 in Hockey East, good for second in the conference. The Riverhawks are currently ranked ninth in the NCAA. Golden girls The Georgetown under-14 girls' Impact went undefeated through to the gold medal match at last weekend's McGregor Cup West Championship before needing a tiebreaking third-set 15-13 victory over Woodstock to win the nine-team Ontario Volleyball Association tournament.
